📘 Course Overview
This course covers medicinal and aromatic plants of Nepal, organic and mushroom farming, seed science and technology, seed pathology, and developmental biology of plants. Students must pass both theory and practical components independently.
🎯 General Objectives
- Acquaint students with medicinal and aromatic plants of Nepal.
- Provide knowledge of organic and mushroom farming.
- Familiarize with seed science and technology.
- Introduce seed borne fungi and culture techniques.
- Study plant growth and development.
📚 Theory Units
- Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (25 hrs) – Distribution, conservation, cultivation, herbal cosmetics.
- Organic & Mushroom Farming (15 hrs) – Organic crops, mushroom life cycle, edible/poisonous mushrooms, farming techniques.
- Seed Science (12 hrs) – Seed testing, storage, dormancy.
- Seed Pathology (8 hrs) – Seed borne fungi, control measures, seed regulation.
- Developmental Biology (15 hrs) – Cell cycle, tissues, meristems, organogenesis, fruit ripening.
🔬 Practical Work
- Herbarium preparation of MAPs.
- Seed germination tests (Blotter & Paper towel).
- Culture media preparation & fungi identification.
- Mushroom identification, preservation & farming techniques.
- Microscopy of mitotic index & plant tissues.
- Field trips with report submission.
📝 Evaluation
Theory (40 marks):
- MCQs – 7 marks
- Short answers – 21 marks
- Long answers – 12 marks
Practical (10 marks):
- Internal – 2 marks (regularity, record book)
- External – 8 marks (experiments, project, viva)
